Located at the beginning of Silver Lake, the Station is envisioned to be an active and inclusive space designed for year-round use.
The 2016 class of Leadership Greater Rochester, through the Rochester Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the City of Rochester and Parks and Rec, plan to work as consultants, bringing together different acting as a central voice and organizing body for the numerous community groups and clubs that have expressed interest in utilizing and optimizing the Station. On their own, these potential community partners do not have the resources to refurbish the space or coordinate a large scale public campaign.
The building has been sitting vacant and is currently in need of restoration in order to be used. Through the partnership of Rochester Parks and Recreation Department, our plan is to develop a business plan and build partnerships with these groups getting them involved with the process. This will create an efficient centralized entity to work with Rochester city departments to oversee the renovation, fundraising, activation, and eventual full utilization of the Silver Lake Station!
Over the next several weeks, the LGR class plans to reach out to community groups and organizations to see how Silver Lake Station could serve and host their members. They want to gather information to see how best to activate the Station, helping it become a valuable and useful center for the Rochester area to gather, learn, do. The LGR class obviously can't reach everyone and all groups in the short window of time available so...
